Adult Education

We believe that Christians never stop growing. Our spiritual education is for life. We mean by this that it is life-long and its purpose is to build a meaningful life. Spiritual growth—becoming like Jesus—doesn’t just happen. There needs to be a commitment to grow. Whether you are looking for a formal class, an informal gathering, or the quiet reflection of centering prayer, you are sure to find something that meets your needs no matter where you are on your spiritual journey.

Education for Ministry (EfM)

Tuesdays 7 p.m., September–June, Dixon House Library

Education for ministry is a four-year program of theological education in which participants may enroll one year at a time. It is intended to enrich one’s faith through an informed and thoughtful understanding of scripture, theology, church history and liturgy, with the goal of enabling lay persons to undertake Christian ministry in the church and in the world more effectively. For more information, contact Virginia Emlen in the church office or Charlotte Kleis, Jonathan Nidock or Doug Anderson.

Faith Forum

Sundays 9:15–10:15 a.m., Dixon House Library

The presentation will change from season to season, but there will always be an absorbing, thought-provoking program or discussion directly related to living the Gospel—the Good News of Jesus—in our daily lives. Come and be prepared to have your horizons expanded, your thoughts stretched and your spirit enriched. Please check the latest newsletter for details of the current program.

Bible Study

Wednesdays 10:30 a.m., Dixon House Library

This Bible study allows you to add depth to your encounter with Scripture at worship. Our Wednesday study of scripture allows the texts to “steep” for three days so that we hear them more deeply when they are read at Sunday worship.

Parents’ Exchange

Sundays 9:40–10:40 a.m., Meeting Room (Church School Wing)

Parents gather to exchange ideas, discuss family issues of faith and offer support to one another. For more information, contact Cathy Davis.

Centering Prayer

Wednesdays 7 a.m., Chapel

In the Healing Chapel under the glow of a candle, participate in a 40-minute period of quiet meditation. For more information, contact Ken Class.

“Curious About God?”

Stephen Tippett leads this small group that engages in learning and caring around issues of Bible study, exploration of other religions, fiction with a religious theme, anthropology of religion, theology and models of God, and books by Karen Armstrong, Marcus Borg and others. Participants will choose the topics and meeting times. Membership is limited to twelve, but if more are interested, we’ll just start another group! Belonging to a small group in a religious community can be meaningful, helpful and fun. Stephen holds a degree in divinity. Contact Stephen.
