Following is the letter sent to all parishioners by Rector's Warden Stewart Graham to announce the acceptance of the Very Rev. E. Clifford Cutler of our call.
November 14, 2005
Dear Fellow Parishioner:
I'm delighted to announce that the Very Reverend E. Clifford Cutler has accepted our call to be St. Paul's eleventh rector. He will begin his ministry with us on February 1, 2006.
Mr. Cutler, who is 56, comes to St. Paul's after 20 years as rector of St. Stephen's in Cohasset, Massachusetts. A native of Philadelphia, he grew up in Montgomery County and graduated from Germantown Academy in 1967 (a member of its last all boys class).
During his youth Cliff was a member of St. Thomas' Whitemarsh, where he sang in the youth choir and was active in the EYC program (of which he was President). After graduating with a major in psychology from Trinity College, Hartford, in 1971, he worked as membership and public relations director for McBurney YMCA in New York City, which is where he met his future wife, Amy.
Our rector-elect attended the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, graduating in 1976. His first parish assignment was as curate of Memorial Church of St. George in Ardmore from 1976 to 1978. He then spent seven years as vicar of St. Luke's Church in Kensington.
In 1985, Mr. Cutler was called to St. Stephen's as rector. During his time there, the parish grew tremendously. In one of those "it's a small world" coincidences, St. Paul's parishioner Lee Richards was rector of St. Stephen's Cohasset from 1960 to 1970.
Clifford and Amy Cutler are the parents of two sons, Evan, 22, and Seth, 20.
Our rector-to-be says, "I believe that God is calling me to minister among you. There can be no greater joy than that. My gift as a pastor is to come alongside people and parishes to help them discover the best in themselves and the promise that God holds out for us all. I can hardly wait."
I can't wait, either.
God bless us all.
Faithfully,
Wm. Stewart Graham
Rector's Warden
