HISTORY OF THE ORGAN

1929 E. M. Skinner Organ #724 installed in present church. 3 manuals, 43 ranks, designed by Charles Courboin. Great & Pedal enclosed behind reredos and sanctuary woodwork, Swell & Choir enclosed in ceiling chamber at front of Nave. 

1953 Contract signed for rebuilding of the organ by the Aeolian-Skinner Organ Company. Designed by G. Donald Harrison, Tonal Director, and Thomas Dunn, Organist at St. Paul's. Entire organ to be in chancel, with functional pipe displays designed in collaboration with Henry Pitz. Chancel mechanism and console to be retained; pipework, except for five ranks, entirely new, 3 manual, 70 ranks. 

1956 Organ installation, #724-A, completed. Specifications significantly altered on the job. Tonal finishing supervised by G. Donald Harrison; his signature plate is placed on the console. Dedicatory recital, 6 June 1956 by Carl Weinrich. Harrison dies on 14 June 1956 while finishing the organ at St. Thomas Church, New York City. 

1969 New three-manual Austin drawknob console installed. 

1977 Nave Organ (Solo, Echo & Pedal) installed in memory of Mary Thompson Reath, given by her family. Solo Organ (#578), Flute Celeste (#295), Diapason (#927) and double-bell English Horn (#851). 

1983 Cracked Great chest and 1929 Swell chests replaced. Austin Vox Humana added to Echo Organ. Prestant (#921) and Octavin (#295) added to Swell Organ. Small scale wood Contrebasse (#852) added to Pedal Organ. Regal (#1066) replaces 1956 stop. 

1989 Grand Choeur division added to Chancel Organ in memory of Schuyler Lippincott, given by his family and friends. Designed by Richard Alexander, Organist at St. Paul's, and Jack Bethards, Tonal Director of Schoenstein Organ Company, San Francisco, builders of the flues. Grand Choeur Trompette subsequently built by Austin Organs, and voiced by David Broome. Three electronic 32' Pedal stops, built by Robert Walker Technical Company, Zionsville PA installed. Old Austin Vox Humana installed in Swell Organ. Stop nomenclature affectations removed. 

1989 Contracts signed with Austin Organs, Inc., Hartford CT for 1) a new four-manual solid-state drawknob console, 2) the complete rewiring of the Chancel Organ with all solid-state circuitry and 3) completely new mechanism for the Nave Organ. Specifications for Nave Organ drawn by Richard Alexander, to include new Austin broad-scale Violas, pipework from #295, 389, 578, 604, 724, 813, 851, 860, 927 and 991, old Austin Solo Flutes 8 and 4, 16 Fagotto, 16 Dulciana and Vox Humana. 

1990 High pressure Trompette Harmonique (#578) and Tuba (#604) installed in memory of Dr. Charles Sackett, given by Charlotte Rogenmuser. 

1992 Austin contracts completed. Installation by Brantley Duddy, organ technician at St. Paul's. Tonal finishing on Nave Organ by Richard Alexander, Brantley Duddy and Daniel Kingman, Austin head flue voicer.

1992 Electronic Gallery Enclosed Great, Gallery Pedal, Harp, Chimes, and Nave Pedal reeds installed in memory of Robert Reath, given by his family. 1969 Austin console installed in Gallery in memory of Harold Gilbert, given by Charlotte Rogenmuser. All tonal and mechanical work designed and finished by Robert Walker. 

1998 All electronic voices replaced by Robert Walker; electronic additions, including Trompette-en-chamade and Tower Bells, given by Charlotte Rogenmuser.
