Cherub Choir

The Cherub Choir is comprised of young children ages 5-8. The group, under the direction of Karen Richter, meets concurrently with the older choristers on Thursdays from 5:00-6:00pm. The children gather in the Children’s Library, opening every rehearsal with the ringing of the chime and a simple prayer, based on the Godly Play model. Since the cherubs are in training to “graduate” to the older group at age eight, they warm up to vocal exercises and practice solfege syllables and rhythmic patterns. Those who can read are encouraged to use the Lift Every Voice and Sing hymnal from which we draw a majority of our repertoire. The children are encouraged to use instruments especially the handbells, drum, tambourines, and triangle. The cherubs sing at the 9:00am service once a month providing a song of praise, an offertory anthem and communion music.
