MINISTRIES
Members of St. Paul's Chestnut Hill have a wide variety of ways to do ministry. From serving as an acolyte at worship services to sorting clothes for the annual rummage sale, the opportunities are numerous and varied.
Ministry takes many forms, from serving on the elected vestry or one of the parish committees to taking part as an usher, flower arranger, altar guild member, lay reader or bread baker at one of our worship services.
Others might want to help out in the office, work on the grounds or serve as hosts to our homeless when they come to stay as part of the Interfaith Hospitality Network.
Musicians can sing in the choir; writers can help with communications; cooks can prepare meals for people with HIV/AIDS or be part of a Sunday morning breakfast team.
Many of the ministries at St. Paul's are open to anyone who wants to participate. Others, like the adult choir and Stephen Ministry program, have auditions and interviews for those interested.
People interested in becoming lay chalice bearers or lay Eucharistic visitors can express an interest in them and then must be approved by the vestry and licensed by the bishop.
Our ministries do not exist just so you can help us. They are there to help others, from the outreach grants that aid our neighbors who are in need to the pastoral care teams that visit homebound parishioners.
St. Paul's is truly about ministry, and this is not just limited to the clergy. Lay people play a large part at all levels and in all areas of our life as a faith community.
Since each parish has its own way of doing ministry, how to become involved and how to avail oneself of a church's resources can be somewhat confusing.
The best way to become involved is to express an interest by calling the office or speaking with someone at the church. The following describes in some detail all the various ministries available at St. Paul's.
We welcome you to become involved if you want to help us minister or to call on us at any time when we can minister to you.
