The New Testament is replete with stories about Christians meeting in different houses for prayer, study, and fellowship and above all the breaking of the bread. These house churches became the places where Christians shared their new life together in Christ. This past fall we adopted a different model for our stewardship campaign. Many parishioners opened up their homes for the entire church family of Saint Paul’s to talk about Saint Paul’s and find ways in which we can be as supportive to the mission and ministry of this wonderful church. The passion and enthusiasm which became the hallmark of the stewardship gatherings generated the interest and development of the Lenten House Meetings. The Lenten House Meetings are about welcoming and celebrating the life of this community in your home. The House Meetings will be modeled after the house churches of the early Church: we will meet in individual houses, fellowship, study the Word of God, pray and break bread. We have 5 designated dates for these meetings: February 28, March 6, March 13, March 20 and March 27. The time for these meetings will be 7-8:30pm. I therefore want to extend an invitation to five (5) parishioners who desire to open their homes for this wonderful opportunity of welcome, fellowship, study and prayer or need. Shrove Tuesday is a truly intergenerational event where each is encouraged to intentionally sit with a younger or older church member!  There will be trivia questions for young and old.  Each can help the other with answers.  Traditionally Shrove Tuesday was a day of using up butter and eggs before the Lenten fast hence the pancakes.  An alternative of soup will also be on hand.  We will choose Prayer Pals, people we will hold in our prayer throughout the Season of Lent.

Saint Paul’s Church will hold a Women’s Lenten Retreat at Cranaleith Spiritual Center, March 24-25, 2012.  Led by Carroll Sheppard, the retreat will offer times of silence, sharing, centering prayer and fellowship, around a Lenten theme.  It will begin at 10 am on Saturday and conclude Sunday at 11 am. The cost will be $70 per person to include three meals and overnight accommodations in a lovely Edwardian house, nestled in a park-like setting only 30 minutes from Chestnut Hill.

Does this sound inviting?  Then send your check to Virginia Emlen, with “Cranaleith Retreat” marked on the memo line, no later than February 28th.  Include a note with your name, mailing address, phone number and e-mail address (in case of weather issues).  Please note: This is limited to the first 10 paid registrants, as that is Cranaleith’s overnight capacity.

We will leave early in the morning and return in late afternoon. If you are twelve (12) years and older and enjoy ski- ing, tubing and snowboarding, come let’s hit the slopes at Spring Mountain Adventures. The cost per lift, rental of equipment and lessons is $50, all area lift ticket is $38 and all area lift ticket and rental is $58. Scholarships are available.  For further information, contact Manny in the office.
