PROGRAMS FOR ADULTS

We believe that Christians never stop growing. Our spiritual education
is for life. We mean by this that it is life-long and its purpose is to
build a meaningful life.
Spiritual growth – becoming like Jesus – doesn’t just happen. There
needs to be a commitment to grow. When the disciples decided to follow
Jesus, he took that foundational commitment and built on it. Here are some Building Blocks of Spiritual Growth.
Sunday Forum on Faith Matters
Sundays Mornings ~
Get coffee and breakfast and join in our Adult Forum
on Faith Matters. How shall we live as responsible adult Christians
in the complex new 21st century? Includes guest speakers,
downloaded programs from the National Cathedral and Trinity Wall
Street, plus featured programs by our own clergy. Sunday Forum takes
place in the Parish Hall beginning February 3 from 9 to 10:15 a.m.
Weekday Bible Study
Wednesdays ~ 10:30 a.m. in the Dixon House Library.
Participants
bring their Bibles. Don’t know which translation is best for you? We
can help. Explore a book of the Bible, or study Sunday’s scriptures
allowing them to “steep” for three days so we hear them with more
“flavor” at worship!
Christian Meditation
Wednesday at 7:00 a.m. in the Healing Chapel ~
Enter with a candle glowing. The leader begins by praying the Lord’s
Prayer in Aramaic, the language that Jesus spoke. The period of meditation is about 40 minutes. There is teaching available for anyone who would like to learn to meditate. Meditation has been part of the Christian
tradition from at least the 4th century and likely goes back to Jesus
himself. Contact: Ken Class kenclass@comcast.net

Jean Mather Course
Tuesday Evening Lenten course at 7:30 p.m. February 12 through
March 11, 2008 in the Dixon House Library
The Birth of Christianity
The Rev. Dr. Jean Mather, rector of Christ Church and St. Michael's in
Germantown will teach a five session course on the birth of Christianity.
The course delves back into the two centuries before Jesus’ birth
with the Maccabean revolt of Judea against Hellenistic culture and rule.
From there, participants will look at the Roman occupied world into
which Jesus was born and in which the church began and grew. Significant
for today is discovering the original energy of the church and
the factors that enabled it to survive and grow. Jean Mather is a historian
by training and holds a PhD from Yale.
