November 13, 2005 - Speaker - The Rev. Dr. Jean Mather

The Rev. Dr. Jean Mather, rector of Christ Church and St. Michael's in Germantown, is a historian by training  and holds a PhD from Yale. She was the first speaker in St. Paul's Sesquicentennial Speakers Series.

Our guest presider and preacher at the principal service was the Rt. Rev. Barbara C. Harris, retired Bishop Suffragan of the Diocese of Massachusetts.   Bishop Harris was the first woman elected bishop in the Episcopal Church and the worldwide Anglican Communion.

Nationally renowned author and lecturer Phyllis Tickle, for many years Contributing Editor in Religion to PUBLISHERS WEEKLY is frequently quoted in sources like USA TODAY, CHRISTIAN SCIENCE MONITOR, NY TIMES, PBS, and NPR. Tickle is an authority on religion in America and a much sought after lecturer on the subject.

February 11, 2007 - Speaker - The Rev. Dr. Gordon Lathrop

“Open Doors, Strong Core ”

Gordon Lathrop is a retired professor at Mt. Airy's Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia. During his more than two decades as our neighbor, he has often preached or led educational programs at St. Paul's. On December 10, 2000, he became the first Lutheran pastor to celebrate the Eucharist in a diocese of Pennsylvania parish.  That historic event took place at St. Paul's three weeks before Call to Common Mission, the document establishing full communion between the Episcopal Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, offically took effect.
